Kabo Tinyiko Ngcukana, from Alberton in Gauteng, has been living with a below knee amputation on her left leg since birth.
Born with a congenital limb malformation, her parents successfully applied for assistance from the Jumping Kids Prosthetic Fund in 2019. She was fitted with her first quality prosthesis that same year.
Now in Grade 4 at Alberton Primary School, Kabo is coping well empowered by her prosthetic equipment at home and in school.
She aims to play netball and participate in athletics in the future and aspires to become a teacher one day while inspiring other children living with physical challenges along the way.
In 2025 Kabo was selected to become a The Star Foundation candidate.
Q&A
What is your favourite subject at school and why?
English, because I can understand it and I enjoy learning how to communicate better in the language.
What would you like to pursue as a career one day?
I would like to become a teacher, because I like to teach, and I want to work with children in the school environment.
What types of sport and extracurricular activities are you involved in?
I like netball, but I am still trying to find a team to play for.
What do you hope to try with your new prosthetic sports blade?
I would like to achieve a medal in a running competition.
What is your message to children living with a physical challenge?
It is my goal to always show kindness and to support other children living with a physical disability.
