Hloni from Soweto received his first walking solution thanks to a collaboration between Reach for a Dream and Jumping Kids. He competes in athletics.
Hloni Koalane lost his right leg in 2009 after a battle with cancer.
His leg was amputated below the knee at Baragwanath Hospital.
He became a beneficiary of the Reach for a Dream initiative who, in collaboration with the Nedbank Dream Riders and Foundacion Teleton Mexico AC, ensured that Hloni was fitted with an advanced walking prosthetic.
In 2011, the young football enthusiast also received his sports prosthetic (or blade) from Jumping Kids and has proved to be quite the acrobat ever since.
My involvement in the 2010 Soccer World Cup and meeting my Paralympic hero Arnu Fourie are some of my highlights. It is also great to be able to play soccer again.
When I grow up … I would like to be a soccer player for Orlando Pirates or become a doctor.
Don’t be afraid and be brave. Keep on working for your dreams no matter what people think.
