Amongst other commonalities in its vision, the Jumping Kids Prosthetic Fund (Jumping Kids) and the Komatsu Foundation Trust (Komatsu) share a goal of promoting access to mobility solutions and quality education for children in need of intervention.
As far back as 2017, when this ‘leader in the supply of Japanese-engineered mining, construction, earthmoving, and utility equipment’ was still known as the Joy Global Foundation (Joy Global), the organisation started donations to Jumping Kids as part of their corporate social responsibility.
In April of 2017 Joy Global was acquired by Komatsu. Regardless of the change in ownership, the multi-national corporation continued its support by donating to Jumping Kids annually to help make an impact on the lives of the children who are the charity’s beneficiaries.
“We are immensely proud of the relationship and grateful for first, the Joy Global Foundation and then the Komatsu Foundation Trust’s continued support. I don’t feel that I am overstating when I say that many of our accomplishments would not have been possible without their consistent and generous support over the years,” says Jumping Kids Director, Michael Stevens.
Jumping Kids is a Section 21 Trust, classified as a Non-Profit Company by the South African Labour Act, which supplies and maintains prosthetic equipment for children living with lower limb amputation or limb related disability across South Africa and into the continent.
The charity’s mandate is to provide beneficiaries, of school going age, with the tools required to become successful contributing members of society – access to prosthetics, quality education and sport. Financial support from organisations like Komatsu has been sustaining the charity since its launch in 2009.
“The main thrust of our corporate social responsibility programme is education and enabling youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds to reach their full potential. We are happy to partner with Jumping Kids to help fulfil its mandate of providing access to better education opportunities to the children in its care,” comments Athol Weideman on behalf of Komatsu.
